City Manager's Update

Ontario's Mayor and City Council Staying the Course

You can't drive very far in Ontario without seeing evidence of progress. Water wells, reservoirs, sewers and storm drains are being provided, streets are being paved, lots are being graded and new buildings are rising throughout the City.

What you are witnessing in Ontario today is a result of the Mayor and City Council's consistent direction and policies and our commitment to building Southern California's Next Urban Center. We are not only creating a community, but a regional destination for commerce, entertainment and lifestyle.

Long term goals such as building a community events center are coming to fruition. The 11,000-seat Citizens Business Bank Arena is well underway. The Arena will be the largest events center in the Inland Empire - and will feature minor league hockey, arena football, concerts and family shows. Opening in fall 2008, the Arena will be a giant leap towards meeting the entertainment needs of our residents and of the region.

J.H. Snyder has broken ground on new urban multi-story, for-sale and rental housing at Ontario Town Square. The project will also include a community plaza and two restaurants. PGP Partners and RREEF have begun the first 150,000-square-foot phase at the Ontario Airport Towers, the new Class A office project at Interstate 10.

Oliver McMillan will soon break ground on the Historic Guasti District - a mixed-use retail, entertainment, hospitality, residential and office district that will open in fall 2009. Guasti will feature over 250,00 square feet of retail and restaurant space, 500,000 square feet of Class A office, 400 residential units and two upscale hotels.

Panattoni Development has continued its pace as development continues at Piemonte. The first 125,00-square-foot Class A office building is underway; and Toll Brothers just recently broke ground on its luxury condominiums. When completed, Piemonte will also feature a full-service hotel, main street retail and high end dining opportunities.

The reality of the New Model Colony is here. Homes are being sold in its first community - EdenGlen - and the next specific plan is not far behind. The $400 million infrastructure which is underway - will provide the necessary platform for future home builders to move forward in the coming years.

Consistent with the Mayor and City Council's commitment to invest in the growth and evolution of our economy, we are creating these lifestyle centers and self sustaining communities so that people can go to work, to the store, to the movies - without having to get on the freeway, thus increasing the quality of life for all Ontario residents.
